Vacation was great!

Catching up on work and gardening since I've been back from vacation. Here's a shot I got of the wild ponies of Assateague. My family and I had a wonderful stay at the beach. It was very relaxing!

My garden grew tremendously while we were away. Look at these gorgeous lettuces. The red leaf head must have been 24 " wide. I stuffed it into this large bowl for the picture. They taste as delicious as they look too!

And, finally, a great vacation picture. My husband got this awesome shot of this polar bear via the underwater walkway at PPG Aquarium at the Pittsburgh Zoo! Isn't that incredible?

I was able to finish this knit shawl while I was away. I think it turned out great! Check it out at my Etsy shop if you'd care to browse!

Finally I made something for myself!

I've been meaning to make myself a new purse for summer. I finally started one this morning and I think it turned out great. I cut strips out of some red gauze material and used a fat hook to start the base. I was going to mix in a section of cotton yarn, but the reds didn't match right and I ended up continuing with the fabric strips. I left some strip ends showing here and there and added a pirate hair elastic as the closure. I also have some pins and beads to add. Here are a few pictures. At least I'll have a new purse for vacation. I'll be sure to take along lots of business cards, just in case I get some compliments on it!

Purse Party!

I have one quick "Craft and Clutter" sale to do before we leave for the beach. It seemed as though people are most interested in my small purses lately so I decided to make a few by Saturday. I have quite an assortment already, with more to come. I won't be listing these on Etsy, but if you see something you like, please leave me a message here. I'll be listing more of what's left after vacation.
The fabric shoulder bag is actually a reconstructed dress that already had fringe on the bottom. I sewed it together and was able to save the fringe.
I also came across a huge spool of tiny rickrack. It is white with stains. I figured I can either unroll it until it's not stained anymore.....or just tea stain the completed project. It is difficult to crochet with, but I love a beautiful challenge. I have a lot of ideas for this find - including this wooden purse blank I've been wanting to do something with.

In the meantime, I need to make myself a summer purse. I get so many compliments on my old brown cotton winter purse that I'm still using. I figured I'd show off something new and pass out some business cards in the meantime. So, I had better get to work!
